Sega Mega Drive II

PC BD MD2 VA0

First revision of the Mega Drive II / Genesis Model 2 redesign, 1993. Significantly smaller than the Model 1, lost the headphone jack, integrated power, and started the consolidation that eventually merged the YM2612 FM synth and PSG into Sega ASICs. VA0 specifically still uses the discrete YM2612 (or YM3438 in some runs), which is why VA0 audio is generally preferred by purists - later VA revisions (VA1, VA2, VA3...) folded the FM core into an ASIC and changed the audio characteristics audibly.
